Archiv der Avantgarden
Fellowship-Präsentation von Megan Hoetger, Ph.D.
For the end of her research fellowship period in the Archiv der Avantgarden Dr. Megan Hoetger will give a public presentation on her project Curating and Kinship. Women, Domestic Labor and Underground Film Programming in Two Germanys. Operating at the intersections of gender, film, and postwar German histories, Curating and Kinship connects “underground” histories of women filmmakers and film screening organizers in two Germanys during the last decade of the Cold War. In tracking the parallels and disjunctures between the “avant-garde” projects in the West and the “alternative” scenes in the East through women’s labor across the so-called Iron Curtain, Hoetger’s work excavates a feminist methodology of curatorial practice, as well as feminist theory of film exhibition history. Her talk on Tuesday 19. November focuses in particular on the underground streams of activity buried within both the folders housed at the Japanisches Palais and the infrastructural memories that animate Dresden’s urban space.
