
Research in the SKD Archive
The Archive of the Staatliche Kunstsammlungen Dresden catalogues and preserves the written records of the former electoral, then royal and now state museums and collections of Saxony since around 1830 as well as the business files of the General Directorate, the museum directorates and the cross-sectional departments of the Staatliche Kunstsammlungen Dresden since 1945. The archive's holdings also include a collection of newspaper clippings, a photo archive, scientific estates of former employees and artists' estates.
Inventory overview
If there is a justified professional interest - provided that this does not conflict with statutory retention periods, third-party interests or conservation reasons - the archive materials are made available for inspection.
The archive is located in the rooms of the Art Library in the Residenzschloss.

Research in the Art Library
The Kunstbibliothek is the central scientific library of the Staatliche Kunstsammlungen Dresden (SKD). It is located in the Dresden Royal Palace. The premises are also used by the SKD Archive, which is attached to the Kunstbibliothek. The Art Library also includes the Ethnographic Library with locations in the Ethnological Museum in Leipzig, Dresden-Klotzsche and Herrnhut. It also looks after the reference libraries of all the museums as well as the Numismatic Library in the Coin Cabinet, which is open to the public, and the book collections in the study room of the Kupferstich-Kabinett.
