Invitation to the press conference „Easter in the Jägerhof“ und „Miniminiminiatures – The World's Smalles Exhibition“
11 March 2024Wer sich ein Bild davon machen möchte
From classic to avant-garde, anyone who wants to see how Easter Eggs can be decorated should go to the Jägerhof, starting 16 March 2024. Amidst beautiful Easter bouquets, visitors can witness expert decorators at work and chat with them about their creations. It is sure to be a great source of inspiration to young and old for their own creations. And it will also offer the opportunity to purchase original presents to fill the Easter baskets of loved ones. And the exhibition will be complimented by a programme full of interesting stories, talks and musical performances.
At the same time as “Easter in the Jägerhof”, the special exhibition “Miniminiminiatures – the world’s smallest exhibition” will open on the second floor. The Museum für Sächsische Volkskunst has a wonderful collection of miniatures crafted from an array of materials, employing various techniques, and imbued with manifold meanings – from micro-carvings in walnut shells to doll’s toys. 16 of these tiny objects will be on display together with large-format photographs of them, taken by the “Sammlungsfotografen” (Collection Photographers), Sebastian Köpcke and Volker Weinhold. The Berlin-based photographer duo is known for staging museum objects in front of black backgrounds, often using unusual perspectives or surprising combinations of objects. Their macro shots reveal details of these micro-objects that are invisible to the naked eye.
In this special exhibition, the meticulously detailed work of the folk artists shines through, whether it is the miner from the Erz Mountains who has been carved into a matchstick, or the pea into which the surveyor Moritz Schubert inscribed the Lord’s Prayer. The display of the original works in combination with their photographic presentation gives these miniature worlds their ‘true size’.
