Advance sales begin for special exhibition on “Vermeer”

Advance sales of tickets are due to begin at 10 a.m. on Thursday, 15 October 2020 for the special exhibition “Vermeer”, which will be on view at the Gemäldegalerie Alte Meister, run by Staatliche Kunstsammlungen Dresden (SKD), from 19 March 2021.

For Staatliche Kunstsammlungen Dresden, the exhibition will be one of the most spectacular in the history of the museum association – and at the same time the largest exhibition held in Germany to date on the painter Johannes Vermeer. High-calibre works on loan from various parts of the world will be brought together at Gemäldegalerie Alte Meister. The central focus of the exhibition will be “Girl Reading a Letter at an Open Window”, which has been under restoration since 2017, along with nine other paintings by Vermeer that are closely connected to that painting. More than 40 works of Dutch genre painting from the second half of the 17th century, including major works by Pieter de Hooch, Gerard Dou, Frans van Mieris and Gerard Ter Borch, offer an insight into Vermeer’s artistic environment.

The exhibition will be taking place in the Winckelmann Forum at the Semperbau am Zwinger from 19 March to 27 June 2021. As the number of visitors is limited due to the coronavirus, timed tickets will be sold.

 

From 10 a.m. on Thursday, 15 October 2020, 100 tickets an hour will be available for purchase during current opening hours from the online shop, the museum ticket offices and the SKD visitor services.

All special exhibition tickets and combined offers are timed tickets and require advance booking. Entry to the special exhibition is not included in the SKD day ticket. The usual regulations on concessions apply to the special exhibition.
