An Exhibition of the Kunstfonds (Artfund) in Cooperation with the Representation of the Free State of Saxony to the Federal Republic of Germany, Berlin
29 September 2011 to 04 March, 2012

In 2011, within the scope of its annual purchases, the cultural foundation of the Free State of Saxony acquired contemporary paintings, graphic works as well as objects and installations worth 170.000,00 EUR. As no other state in Germany does Saxony support artists, who live and work here, among them are many graduates from the renowned Hochschule für Bildende Künste Dresden (Dresden Academy of Fine Arts) and the Hochschule für Grafik und Buchkunst Leipzig (Academy of Visual Arts Leipzig). An independent committee consisting of art experts and artists recommends the acquisitions.

The art works become property of the Free State of Saxony and are included in the holdings of the Kunstfonds of the Staatliche Kunstsammlungen Dresden. In the Kunstfonds and by the means of the annual purchases, a significant collection of contemporary art has been accumulated since 1992, comprising of all genres of Fine Art, such as paintings, sculptures, graphics, photographs, conceptual art, videos and installations. The Kunstfonds makes the artworks accessible to the public in exhibitions and lends them to museums and public institutions. For the first time, the new acquisitions are presented in the Representation of the Free State of Saxony to the Federal Republic of Germany in Berlin.
