Today, the Crow Fair – originally created in 1904 to vitalize agriculture in the Crow Indian tribe –belongs to the most important Powwows in North America. Every year in August, the Crow Indians are celebrating this feat in Crow Agency, which is the main city in the Crow Indian reservation and is situated in the south-east of Montana. In a camp comprising of hundreds of teepees, camping tents and caravans, dancing competitions, parades with horsemen and floats, tributes to commendable persons and other event take place several days in a row. At the same time, the feast is important for meeting families and friends as well as for inter-tribal encounters. It is an attraction for tourists from near and far. The small photo exhibition gives impressions of four Powwows in the Crow Indian reservation between 1996 and 2009. The images show the colourfulness of Indian dance and festive dress, the pride and beauty of the dancers, parades with solemnly dressed horses and cars as well as camp scenes from the “teepee capital of the world”.
