An exhibition by Kunstfonds
8 December 2010 to 8 April 2011
Artists have been inspired by Johann Wolfgang Goethe (1749-1832) to interpret the world. When the anniversary of the poet's birth or death is approaching, this reception increases. The exhibition shows sheets from print collections, which were executed in the jubilee years 1959, 1979 and 1999 and impressively reflect 40 years of art history. Moreover, they meditate the view of Goethe according to their times in which they were created and show different approaches towards the grand poet.
34 works by twelve artists, who live or once lived in Saxony, are exhibited. On view are art works in different techniques by Rudolf Nehmer, Andreas Dress, Gotthard Graubner, Eberhard Göschel, Peter Herrmann, Gerda Lepke, Michael Morgner, Max Uhlig and Thea Richter among others. The Kunstfonds and the Goethe-Institut Dresden continue their collaboration which has started in 2008 with this exhibition.
