15 Masterpieces // Drawings after 1945
From the Collection of the Dresden Kupferstich-Kabinett
March 31 to July 12, 2010

15x1
In a weekly alteration, one of 15 valuable masterpieces from storage, which is rarely exhibited due to protective reasons, is shown. Among them are works by Jan van Eyck, Rembrandt, Caspar David Friedrich and Ernst Ludwig Kirchner. In this concentration on only a single sheet, its uniqueness is mirrored with regard to the collection as well as its artistic meaning in its time of origin.

Parallel to these highlights, Hans-Ulrich Lehmann, a now retired long time conservator, shows his very personal selection of drawings since 1945 from the rich holdings of the collection. German and international artists such as Gerhard Altenbourg, Carlfriedrich Claus, Hermann Glöckner, Ilja Kabakow, Per Kirkeby, Giorgio Morandi, Hans-Theo Richter, Thomas Scheibitz or Bernard Schultze are represented. This part of the exhibition documents the diversity of means of expression, its reflection in drawing and last but not least the attempt to collect contemporary art works in the Kupferstich-Kabinett in the last 55 years.
