Transferring Art - The German-Russian Cultural Relations since the 17th century. A research project by the Staatliche Kunstsammlungen Dresden (Dresden State Art Collections)
Aim of the project was the examination of the diversity of the relations between German and Russian, which mirror the cultural exchange between East and West.
The wealth of the cultural traditions in the city of art Dresden suggested to turn this place into the starting point to research the relations interdisciplinary. From here, a forum of scientific exchange was established that intensified the cultural interdependence between the two countries. Under various political systems from the late 17th century until the present day, the transfer of art works, artists, and ideas between Russia and Saxony offered a broad field of important questions. In its diversity, they could only be approached through intensive scientific exchange, respectively on the basis of parallel or shared aims between German and Russian researchers.
Another aim, next to the precise plan, was also to initiate impulses to name future research perspectives and projects and to strengthen German-Russian working relationships on the long term. Results from the research at home and abroad noticeably enriched the internationally specialised discourse and essentially contributed to the scientific examination of the collection's holdings. The definitions of the tasks were directed to the distinctive features of each project and ended in diverse means of scientific publications.
