Technical Examination of the Italian Paintings of the 15th Century

Technical examination of the Italian paintings of the 15th century in the Gemäldegalerie Alte Meister in Dresden

Outline:
The project encompasses the technical inspection of approximately 60 Italian paintings of the 15th century, consisting, hereby, of the entire holdings of this work group in the Gemäldegalerie Alte Meister. Every painting is examined with the help of the infra-red reflectography with regard to the first sketches. Furthermore, the support will be closely examined and the different layers of paint will be described with the means of microscopy. If necessary, x-ray examination up to chemical analyses will be exemplary executed.
