Saxon State Office for Museum Affairs

The Sächsische Landesstelle für Museumswesen (Saxon State Office for Museum Affairs) is the central institution for all matters relating to collecting, preserving, researching, documenting, exhibiting and educating.

The State Office promotes the enjoyment and appreciation of culture in museums in a broad variety of ways – from the conceptual planning of exhibitions to the drawing up of inventories, the conservation and presentation of objects, as well as the organisation of attractive events in the field of cultural education and entertainment. It provides a network for museums and advertises their work, operating the Saxon Museumsportal on the Internet.

The “Folk Culture” (Volkskultur) department is the partner to contact for initiatives relating to Sachsen folklore studies, and it produces the “Weiß-Grün” (white and green) series of publications on Saxon history and folk culture.

Anyone with an interest in Sachsen folk culture can take advantage of an extensive reference library containing academic papers and archive materials supplemented by important specialist publications relating to museum affairs.
